About

Pray in the Spirit at all times in every prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert and always persevere in supplication for all the saints.
— Ephesians 6:18 NRSV

Prayers of the People (POP) is a layperson prayer ministry of Bayshore Baptist Church in Tampa, Florida. The participants in POP, called Seekers, commit to pray for Bayshore Baptist Church, and to pray for the staff and ministries of Bayshore as guided by the staff prayer requests and praises in the POP Alert newsletter. The participants are called Seekers because they seek the face of God to convey the prayers of His people, per the command of our Heavenly Father and that of our Lord Jesus Christ (Deuteronomy 4:29; 2 Chronicles 7:13-14; Matthew 7:7-8).

This ministry was born out of prayer, through the regular gatherings of saints such as Donna Hart, Rosie Scott, Leisa Stanley, and others. This prayer group felt the strong need for a church-wide prayer ministry for Bayshore. They rejoiced when the ministry and its first participants were commissioned Sunday morning, March 2, 2003. And the ministry was prayerfully led through its first ten years by Coordinator Rosie Scott.

Bayshore continues God’s call to love and serve Him by loving and serving others; to make a difference in our community by being welcoming, transforming and serving for God's glory. And we know that nothing of worth can grow and last without prayer. And so, the charge to Seekers is as follows.
  • Seekers are asked to commit at least one hour of prayer each week for the ministries and staff of Bayshore Baptist Church, guided by the prayer requests and praises noted in the POP Alert newsletter.
  • Seekers may choose the day and time of prayer that is comfortable for them. Your specific day and time of prayer will not be tracked by POP.
  • If necessary, Seekers may break up their committed hour into multiple sessions during the week to pray when and where they can.
